For renaissance festivals and theme parks... In 2005, the Aerial Angels implemented a special partnership with the Bay Area Renaissance Festival, training an ensemble of talented local actors to perform aerial and circus skills throughout the festival, including lane work and twice-daily shows. This and similar training builds on our philosophy of passing on to future generations the skills that were so generously shared with us by our coaches and fellow performers, as well as providing the festival with a group of highly-skilled local performers who may go on to create their own shows as they mature as entertainers. The festival also immediately benefits by increasing the impact of circus performers through greater numbers, which heightens the "lane excitement" factor and the atmosphere of the festival.
Please inquire if you are interested in special training for cast members, or if you are interested in bringing in additional professional Angels for more lane work. We also teach workshops in Mask Characterization, which helps build the visual impact of village characters, and Contact Improv, Stage Combat, Friendly Shakespeare, Yoga for Actors, and Circus Skills.
Workshops and master classes are also available for colleges, theatres, and schools. Through our sister company, Commedia Zuppa, we do guest artist residencies in Mask, Physical Theatre, and Commedia Dell'Arte as well as all of the above listed workshops. Please contact us for a brochure about Commedia Zuppa's work.
“It was a great experience for the students and the
performances were really wonderful.”

If you are already an aerialist with a solid routine and at least one additional performance skill and wish to be considered as an Associate Artist (we bring you in for large shows), please email us for an address to send your resume and demo video. Please note: It is extremely difficult to work with our company unless you live within 3 hours of Kalamazoo, Michigan. We train in Kalamazoo over the winter, and our touring dates begin and end in Kalamazoo, often commuting.
To be considered as a potential future trainee, please email us with your age, location, performing resume (if applicable) and a brief statement of your background, training, and reasons for wanting to do this work. We may then request a video or an in-person audition.
Potential performers must be over 18, fit, weight proportionate to height, and have the following skills:
We also recommend the following skills:
Internships may be available for beginners who have some of the above skills.
This summer, the Aerial Angels performed in Belgium, Italy and Austria at festivals, block parties and on the street. As well as meeting street performers from all over the world, we experienced the excitement of travelling as artists, which opened many doors. We plan to return to Europe for another tour in 2007, and will take an intern/trainee with us. The tour will last approximately 4-6 weeks and include two weeks at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as time on the continent. Prior to the tour, we will train for four weeks in Michigan, and you will attend some shows in North America to learn the work.
We are seeking an easy-to-get-along-with, self-motivated person, with an interest in street performing and circus work. This position would be ideal for a college student, and we are happy to work with your home institution to arrange school credit.
Duties will include running sound, carrying and helping set up equipment, and being a gofer. You will also learn to perform as a professional street artist and develop your skills in aerial, acrobatic and comedy performance.
We anticipate this program costing about $3700, which will include airfare, lodging, car travel, some food, and training time. You will receive a small cut of each hat pass, but otherwise be responsible for your own pocket money.
You must be over 18 at time of travel and have a driver's license. Preference will be given to applicants who speak Italian and/or German.
