| Greetings all!
It has been three weeks since Tincelle, Peanut, Sparkle and Mimi began our performances at the Maryland Renaissance festival. So far it has been a pretty exciting run. The show is different, it's more of an artistic nature than the street shows we're used to. We don't have any lines for this show. In fact, we don't even speak English. Instead, we make lots of beeping, squeaking, giggling and grunting noises to each other and the audience. Every time we do the show, we get to tell a playful little fairy tale about woodland creatures discovering aerial equipment in the trees and playing on it. The whole thing culminates in an epic dance-off up in the silks. (I always win.) We also get to play with ribbon dancers. Huzzah!
Our first day on the job, we were super excited to perform. Sadly, we didn't get to do any of our shows due to the horrendous winds and rain of hurricane Hannah. We were blown away. Literally.
Since then, the weekends have been sunny and beautiful. Almost too sunny a couple of times, but so far none of us has melted and disappeared. Knock on wood.
Mimi and I are staying at a house with some friends of the Angels, the leader of whom asked to be referred to as Charlie. No idea why. Charlie is very nice. She lets us do chores and housework and yardwork, and she lets us watch hours and hours of Grey's Anatomy and 90210. Only after we're done practicing and conditioning of course. We have a rig set up in the backyard and have been playing with new moves and new routines. I learned a new way to end Quidam wrap and Mimi is finally mastering the Miracle Splits.
Probably the best part about living at Charlie's house is that we have two kittens to play with whenever we want! Their names are Lily and Olive (also fondly known as Monkey and Nugget/Cricket/Lugnut) and they are Aerial Angels mascots in training. Lily sits in the picture window in the kitchen and watches just about every practice session in the backyard. Then she offers harsh criticism of our lines and techniques and tries to eat my ponytail and strangle the life out of Mimi's headphones. |
