And Now There's An Audience...
How did the past month go so fast? Where did the time go? Here we are. Tonight there will be an audience. Tonight there will be reaction (hopefully) gasps (hopefully) and applause (would be nice). It was almost a year ago that Allison and Zay went on Dragon's Den to ask for the money to create 'the Big Show' which has become Stand Up Eight. This is (hopefully) the beginning of a long journey with many more shows, and many more audiences.

But tonight, it's the first. The first audience.

We take a deep breath and dive in.....

Everybody Eats Fire Now!

Everybody Eats Fire Now!
In a moment of insanity, Lindsay the dramaturg bet the cast that when they got the tongue to tongue to tongue fire transfer for the Fire Party Act, SHE would learn how to eat fire.

So they did, and she did.

(Pssssst, she always knew they'd get it)

Zay (aka SPIKE) taught Lindsay everything she needed to know about putting a flaming torch inside her mouth.

Lindsay says..... 'the fire coming toward your face is a million times more scary than actually eating fire. It's the thought of putting fire on your tongue that goes against every human instinct. After the first tap.... which took a bit..... I knew I'd be able to do it - And now I have pictures and video!'

Not Every Day Goes According to Plan
Today was supposed to be a flying day. It wasn't.

Flying is the finale. The big deal. The big picture. The thing that's never been done. Never been staged. Never been worked on. The thing we should have started working with way back on Thursday. Didn't happen.

There are two ways to react when things don't happen when they're supposed to. You can curl up in the corner like a little girl and cry. Or you get hit with the things not happening and you move on. You find something else to do. You figure out the next step.

And if you feel like crying like a little girl, you hide in a bathroom first. That's the way men do it.

When you're creating something from the ground up, the process is not going to be perfect. This is not a well honed Neil Simon romp that has every crack smoothed to sweetness. This is not a flannel blanket. This is not a baby's bottom. This is rough. This is craggy. This is sandpaper.

Sandpaper is hard to deal with. Sure everyone would rather curl up with a nice soft blanket and just coma out on easy. Well, maybe not everyone.

Point is, flying didn't happen. And we have to deal with it. And move on. And put one foot in front of the other while walking on sandpaper. The really, really scratchy kind.

Nobody said this was easy. But hey, it's far from coal mining. And there will be a show. There will be a show.
